Hoparoo Privacy Policy

The short version: Everything you create in the app — routines, tasks, activity history, and settings — stays on your device. Hoparoo never sells or shares your data, and never sends anything you or your child typed.
The one thing that does leave the device is anonymous usage data: counts and durations that tell us how the app is used, with no names, no accounts, and no way to identify a device or a person. You can turn it off in Settings › Anonymous usage data. The section below says exactly what it contains.
Hoparoo ("the app") is a routine-timer app designed for families. This policy explains what happens to your data when you use it.
What data the app stores, and where
- Routines, tasks, and activity history you create are stored locally on your device using on-device storage. This data never leaves your device automatically.
- App settings (sounds, theme, accent color) are also stored locally on your device.
- Hoparoo has no backend server. There is no account creation, no sign-in, and no user database anywhere.
Backup and restore
Hoparoo lets you export a backup file of your routines and history, and later restore from one. This is entirely user-initiated:
- When you back up, the app creates a file and hands it to your device's own share sheet (iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Files, AirDrop, email, or wherever you choose to save it). Hoparoo itself never uploads this file anywhere.
- When you restore, you pick a file from your device using the system file picker. Hoparoo reads only the file you select.
Anonymous usage data
Hoparoo uses PostHog to understand how the app is used — which features people reach for, where routines get abandoned, whether the defaults are the right ones. This is the only thing the app sends anywhere.
How to turn it off: Settings › Anonymous usage data. It is on by default, and turning it off stops everything described below immediately, including anything not yet sent.
What is sent
Only counts, durations, and fixed settings values. Specifically:
- That a routine was started or finished, and whether it was completed, paused, or ended early.
- How big a routine is — how many tasks and subtasks it has, and roughly how long it runs (rounded to the nearest 30 seconds).
- Which numbered task a routine was stopped on, when one is ended early.
- That a routine was created, edited, deleted, or reordered.
- Which settings are chosen — theme, sounds, scene, break lengths, accent colour.
- That a backup was saved or restored, and how many routines it held.
- That the app was installed, updated, opened, or closed.
- Your device model, operating system version, app version, language, and time zone.
What is never sent
- Names. Routine names, task names, and subtask names never leave the device — not in any event, ever. This is deliberate: children's names end up in routine names ("Ava's bedtime"), so no free-typed text is sent at all.
- Any account or identity. Hoparoo has no accounts. No person record is created in PostHog; events are stored with a random identifier generated on your device and nothing else.
- Your location. Location lookup from IP address is explicitly disabled.
- Screen recordings. Session replay is off.
- Advertising identifiers. Hoparoo does not access the advertising ID on either platform, and has no advertising SDKs of any kind.
Advertising
Hoparoo contains no advertising of any kind and no advertising SDKs.
Permissions
Hoparoo may request only the device permissions strictly required for features you use (for example, access to the Files app when you choose to restore a backup). The app does not request microphone, camera, location, or contacts access.
Children's privacy
Hoparoo is designed to be used by children under parental supervision, alongside a parent or guardian. The app has no account system and collects no personal information from children of any age.
The anonymous usage data described above consists of a randomly generated identifier and counts of in-app activity. It is used solely to maintain, analyse and improve how the app works. It is never used to contact anyone, never used to build a profile of an individual, never used for advertising, and never sold or shared. A parent can switch it off entirely in Settings.
Where your data is processed
Anonymous usage data is processed by PostHog, Inc. on servers in the United States, acting on our instructions as a data processor. No other third party receives any data from the app.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change accordingly. Since Hoparoo has no accounts or contact information stored, we recommend checking this page directly for updates.
